You may have been unaware but people around the U.S. use all different words to describe the kind of sweetened carbonated drinks they like to drink. Which means when you say you want a soda, everyone might not necessarily know exactly what you are talking about. And if you say you want a Coke, we know you might not mean an actual Coca-Cola.
This map below shows what people around the U.S. call these drinks and where they are primarily located.
What do you call a Pepsi?
Some might actually call it a Coke...which makes no sense to me. But I'm not here to judge.
