Dulse is a red seaweed that grows on both coasts in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

It has a red tint that resembles bacon to start, but when fried, it gives the same salty and meaty taste that bacon lovers crave.

This isn't a new discovery by an means. Icelandic people have been enjoying this delicious plant since the 12th century.

Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center has researched and grown Dulse for 15 years. They've now created and patented a new strain–Chuck Toombs, a faculty member in OSU’s College of Business says, "Dulse is a superfood, with twice the nutritional value of kale, and OSU had developed this variety that can be farmed, with the potential for a new industry for Oregon.”

There isn't a commercial farming setup for this delicious sea vegetable–yet–but you can learn more about it by watching the video below:

OSU is waiting for a grant from the department of agriculture to explore Dulse as a “special crop.”
