On his website, the multi-talented Valeriano Fatica describes himself as "a painter, sculptor, performer, and carver of fruits and vegetables." And despite that being undeniable, his knack for sculpting shines easily shines above the rest.
His works are not only remarkable, but edible too, many of them made out of watermelon, potatoes, and pumpkins - although by his admission, the pumpkin ones aren't the most delicious things in the world. Amidst an incredible portfolio of fascinating works, his most recent watermelon creation stands out - a highly detailed, terrifyingly lifelike dragon.
Fatica starts with a watermelon of his choosing, which has to be perfectly shaped for the piece he has planned.
Then, he removes the outer layer, "skinning" the watermelon of its green exterior.
Once he's done this, he begins to carve...
And boy does he carve.
After hours of tedious contouring and skillful detailing...
His masterpiece is complete.
