Shiyang he, a graphic designer at the Beijing office of advertising agency Ogilvy, recently created a series of ads for the Shenyang Center For Psychological Research that expose a sad and troubling reality of our modern day that's too often ignored.
Shiyang's work depicts how smartphones are beginning to dominate our lives, and now, how they're damaging our relationships...
The campaign is called, "The More You Connect, The Less You Connect" and it's a convicting reminder of how much power our phones have over us, and just how much they hinder us from truly connecting with each other.
Technological addiction is the result of over-stimulation, and ultimately, a resistance to real human interaction. Why? Because it's harder. But it's also a hell of a lot more fulfilling. So what about you? Will you put your foot down on putting the phone down?
In a time where real relationship and solidarity, both as a country and globally, is as gravely needed as it's ever been, and the true definition of "friend" is deteriorating, it's critical that we begin focusing on connecting with each other in real ways. Face-to-face conversation sure would be a good start.
