If you've ever wanted to see the evolution arms race up front, look no further. A greedy python wanted to eat a whole porcupine, only to realize that the defense mechanism porcupines developed turned out to be very unpleasant for it.Â
Warning the last few pics are pretty graphic.Â
A cyclist in South Africa found this enlarged python on a bike trail
He took a photo that went viral and drew the attention of some people in the reserve who kept an eye on it. The snake apparently moved about 3 feet from where the biker first found it.Â
Normally, these types of snakes move away from the trail when cars come by
The sluggishness of this snake made it a bit of a local celebrity because people wanted to catch a glimpse of it.Â
The snake couldn't move from the weight of the animal it ate... until it died.
Inside, they found a 30 pound porcupine, with all its quills!
Pythons actually can normally eat porcupines in the wild
Park rangers speculate that the snake fell off a cliff and the quills pierced its digestive tract.
Pythons can eat animals up to 50 pounds in weight.Â
