by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

This couple was living the AAmerican dream before they sold it all for their own dream of traveling. After reading this story, you might find yourself wanting to do the exact same thing.

Meet Matt and Jessica Johnson, the couple who will inspire you to get out there and do the things you love to do.

Matt and Jessica are both 32 and from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They had the seemingly perfect, all-american lifestyle going on for them until they realized it wasn't exactly what they wanted. They went to school, both had jobs, got married, had a house - all until they sold everything, quit their jobs, and bought a boat.

The couple wanted to travel and explore the life that sea could bring to them, so instead of simply talking about it, they made it happen.
It took some time and practice for them to learn how to sail, but with enough devotion they felt comfortable enough to tackle the sea. On August 12th of 2011 they left Michigan and have been to 16 countries since.
They have said their time on the water has been awesome. They adopted a cat named Georgie from a no-kill shelter and he has been traveling with them since.

The couple is still living off of their saving's since before they first left home. They said they can do this by living frugally and simply budgeting out their costs.

These are the countries they have visited so far: Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba, Grand Cayman, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, Columbia, Belize, Mexico, The Azores, Madeira of Portugal, Canary Islands of Spain, Sint Maarten, British Virgin Islands, and US Virgin Islands.

“Our lives were the typical American Dream. Go to school, get married, buy a house, start a career. So far we’ve also left out the part of having 2.5 kids...For too long we had spent all of our weekends in front of the TV without ever doing anything productive or enjoyable. We realised this needed to change." The couple said.
