This Super Mario Bros Blanket Took 6 Years To Make, But Some Things Are Worth The Wait

If you think Americans are the only ones fanatically obsessed with Mario video games, you're dead wrong.Â
Norwegian, Kjetil Nordi, is easily the most avid Mario fan he knows - namely, Super Mario Bros 3 for Super Nintendo - and as a testimony to his deep and abiding love for it, he crocheted an epic blanket of the game's "World 1" map...over a span of 6 years...spending over 800 hours total on it.
That's fanhood folks.
Nordi is now 31. Which - if my math is correct - means he began making this when he was 25.
In total, it took him approximately 800 hours and over 100 balls of yarn to complete. And no, that's not a typo.
“The hardest thing has been to accept that it took such a long time.â€
“I’ve spent 800 hours crocheting and many hours researching and searching for the correct yarn.â€
At one point, he realized he had chosen an imperfect color for the "menu" portion, and had to completely redo it.
The yarn “was almost purple, and very ugly, so I had to undo all of it. That took an extra week."
Naturally, trolls have voiced feedback questioning why someone would dedicate so much time to such a thing. But they're unaware of Nordi's other accomplishments over those 6 years.
During the span, he won the Norwegian Sky Diving team championship two times, earned two university degrees, started a career, and even made smaller crochet figures for his family. It “hasn’t taken all of my time. You get a bit sick of such long lasting projects.â€
"It hasn’t taken all of my time. You get a bit sick of such long lasting projects.â€
As for what’s next, “I can’t rush it. I’ll have a break, and think for a while"...
And of course, play a bit of Super Mario while he's thinking it over.
