This Artist Turns Old Logs Into Lamps That You Can Also Sit On

by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

Tasmania-based furniture designer and artist, Duncan Meerding, loves nature. In fact, much of what he creates - and certainly what he's become most known for - is wooden furniture, inspired by the organic and uniquely free-flowing forms of nature.

His creations, which pay homage to its immutable beauty, are both distinctly beautiful and highly functional. And his most recent series of works - cracked logs that he repurposed into gorgeous lamps that also second as chairs - is certainly no exception.

"Combining traditional wood joinery techniques with modern technologies I aim to create pieces which are functional, as well as which hold a simplistic aesthetic beauty."
"The Cracked Log Lamps are made from salvaged logs which would otherwise have been burnt. These lamps embrace, rather than avoid the naturally occurring cracks in refuse logs."
"By turning them into a vessel for light, we can bring the outside in, and be reminded of our intrinsic connection with nature."
