This 9-Year-Old Girl May Have Finally Found The Solution To Actually Helping The Homeless

by N/A, 10 years ago | 3 min read

Despite being only 9 years old, Hailey Fort has done more to help the homeless and needy than many of us have in our entire lives.

The young, altruistic Seattle native spends much of her time building small mobile shelters for the homeless in her area, along with growing fruit and vegetables in her own garden to give to them as well. And while her efforts certainly have the ability to make the average person convicted of their lack of charity, they're infinitely more inspiring.

It started at the age of 5, when she saw a homeless man and asked her mom if she could buy him a sandwich.
Since then, Hailey has been fervently designing and building small mobile shelters for her homeless friends.

Hailey's shelters aren't poorly built either - they're the real deal. Each comes with professional sliding windows, denim insulation, and linoleum flooring.

It's her compassionate heart and love for others that drive her most.

“It just doesn’t seem right that there are homeless people. I think everyone should have a place to live,” Hailey told King 5 News.

And fortunately, Hailey has parents that fully support her projects too. They help pay a portion of the cost of each home, which averages around $300...
They also help her with some of the heavier aspects of assembly.
But other than that, Hailey builds these shelters all by herself.
Heck, she even designs them.
Along with all of this, which is already insanely admirable, she also grows her fruit and vegetable own gardens, which she harvests to stock her sheds with.
But Hailey isn't settling with what she's accomplished so far. Far from it - she's still setting the bar higher for herself.

This year, her goal is to grow 250lbs of food, build 12 shelters, and deliver thousands of toiletries and hygienic items to the homeless people of Seattle.

Put simply, this girl has nothing short of a heart of gold. We admire and commend you Hailey!

If Hailey's work has inspired you, be sure to check out her GoFundMe page, where you can help fund her efforts. Or, you can help her with purchasing supplies and toiletry items on her Amazon registry.
