11 Fast Food Meals That Are Actually Quite Healthy
We all want to eat healthier, but sometimes that can be hard, especially when we have to eat out. Luckily, there are a lot of fast food restaurants where you can find something that won't totally destroy your diet. We're not suggesting that you use this as a diet plan because that will be disappointing to you, but they aren't the worst options out there!
Pret a Manger has plenty of very healthy salad options that can keep you under 500 calories. Their Egg and Veggie Power Lunch bowl has just 420 calories and has 22 grams of protein (plus it's vegetarian).
At Burger King the thing to watch out for is trans fat, and of course sodium. A good option is the BK VEGGIE Burger which has no trans fat and keeps the sodium under 1,000 mg.
Taco Bell, like many fast food restaurants, can completely blow the amount of sodium you have in a day. Most of their items, unfortunately, have more than 1,000 milligrams of it. The shredded chicken burrito is a good option that has just 960 mg of sodium and just 400 calories.
Subway obviously has plenty of options that aren't too bad for you, the key is loading up the veggies and keeping the sauces and cheese to a minimum. A six-inch turkey breast with swiss cheese, veggies and vinegar has just about 390 calories and23 grams of protein.
Hardee's has a few choices on their "better for you options" menu, including a "Veg' It" Thickburger, which technically isn't a burger at all, since it's everything except the meat. Another option is their 1/4-lb Low Carb Little Thickburger, which is served with between lettuce instead of on a bun. It has just 220 calories and only 6 grams of carbs.
The Grilled Chicken Cool Wrap clocks in at just about 340 calories and has 36 grams of protein to keep you going.
Jimmy John's offers a lot of options to customize your sandwich, so it's not too hard to find something somewhat healthy. One option is to get a Roast Beef Sub with no mayo and plenty of veggies. That clocks in at about 380 calories and 6 grams of fat.
The killer at McDonalds are the fries (which let's face it, are amazing) but if you can avoid them, you can find a few things that aren't all that terrible for you. The Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich has just 360 calories and 930 mg of sodium.
Quiznos is tough because almost everything they have is over 1,000 mg of sodium. The Small Honey Bourbon Chicken Sub has just 360 calories, but it hits right at that 1,000 mg mark.
Panera has a ton of options if you're watching calories. One of those options is the Roasted Turkey and Avocado BLT. The full sandwich has just over 500 calories and 60 grams of carbs.
Chipotle is almost impossible to find anything with less than 1,000 mg of sodium, so either split it up between two meals or watch what else you eat that day. Go with a bowl instead of a burrito to save on the carbs as well. A Burrito Bowl with steak, black beans, fajita veggies, tomato salsa, cheese and lettuce will come in at just about 460 calories and 36 g of carbs.
