Rapper T.I. (Clifford Harris) had an MTV special called Road to Redemption which was created after Harris faced a 20-year prison sentence for illegal acquiring machine guns. It documented the community service work he did which earned him a one year sentence. The dating competition There's Something About Miriam had a very similar formula to The Bachelorette. A group of men compete for the love of a beautiful Mexican model named Miriam. After Miriam chooses the winner of the competition, she reveals that she is actually a trans woman or male-to-female transsexual who is still undergoing surgeries to complete her transition. The contestants had angry and violent reactions, one going so far as to punch a producer.Â
Husband, father and war veteran Mark Chanko was struck by a vehicle in 2011 and treated by one of the stars of NY Med. Unfortunately, he died from his injuries shortly after arriving to the hospital. The star of the show, Sebastian Schubl, was the doctor who treated Chanko and later told the Chanko family about Mark's death. NY Med aired a year later and broadcasted both the final moments of Mark's life as well as the family's reaction to the news, without their knowledge.Â
MTV's Teen Mom star Amber Portwood was seen punching, choking and slapping the father of her child, Gary, on camera on multiple occasions in front of their daughter. This happened for a year before the episodes aired and MTV staff and producers never reported the abuse.Â
Call of the Wildman follows Ernie “Turtleman†Brown Jr. as he captures nuisance animals. Many of the animals aren't found by Brown. Sometimes producers would find animals and manufacture a scene around them. For example, a group of baby raccoons was found and producers said they were found inside a house. On September, 22, 2013, NBC News celebrated National Elephant Appreciation Day and later that day NBC news aired video of a hunter shooting an elephant and then having a celebratory drink of champagne. The footage came from Under the Wild Skies, a show which captured hunter Tony Makris shooting large animals all around the world for sport.Â
Bumfights was show that offered homeless people $20- $100 to fight each other or hurt themselves. The show ran for four years and the show creators were later arrested for obstructing justice. Some of the people featured on the show later sued the creators.Â
A spoof of The Real World, called "Homeless Real World" was similar to Bumfights, without the fights and violence. The show followed six men who suffered from substance abuse problems. Producers offered the men featured on the show money in order to put themselves in humiliating situations like going to a luxury golf course and getting kicked off.Â
Elizabeth Outram was filmed while shopping at a T.J. Maxx. She found a leather jacket that was out of her price range and changed the price sticker. She was charged with fraud and was set to be featured on a "caught on camera" reality show. She asked the producers not to release the episode, citing a history of mental illness and fearing that she wouldn't be able to handle the humiliation. The production company refused to pull the episode and Outram hanged herself.Â
