Talented nature photographer, Anand Varma, teamed up with the Bee Lab at UC Davis, and together they captured the first 21 days of a bee's life, from larva to first flight, in a mesmerizing, 60-second timelapse.

Bees pollinate approximately 1/3 of the world’s natural food supply but are being their reproduction is being drastically languished by the Varroa destructor mite, who feed on bees when they're still larva.
Varma, who was hired to document the process, actually began keeping his own bees so that he could study them more closely and learn more about destructor mites and other circumstantial problems bees are facing. He explains more about the potentially dire problem in his
