A Vending Machine in Berlin Sells Shirts for Just 2 Euros, But Nobody Wants to Buy Them

by N/A, 8 years ago | 2 min read

Europe-based non-profit, Fashion Revolution, whose mission is centered around helping sweatshop laborers across the world, has come up with a brilliant way of educating people about the global problem that's all too often swept under the rug.

As a part of a social experiment of sorts, they placed a t-shirt vending machine in a busy area in Berlin, advertising the shirts at a mere 2 euros. As one could imagine, this attracted quite the crowd. But when given the backstory behind the shirts they were about to purchase, would-be buyers had a strong change of heart.

Sweatshop laborers.

It also informed them of a number of facts about the laborers, like the miserly 13 cents an hour they get paid.

The video was released on April 24th, or "Fashion Revolution Day." The day commemorates the tragic collapse of the Rana Plaza in Bangladesh in 2013, which killed more than 1,000 garment laborers who had been making clothing for American brands in highly unsafe conditions.

Understandably, people were appalled.

Then, after being watching the video, users were given the choice.

They could either go on buying the shirt, or donate to helping increase pay for sweatshop laborers.

For most, it was an easy decision.
