Sometimes, we find figures from the present appear in past artifacts in the most unexpected ways. Â
Recently, when two historians were looking at a Medieval Manuscripts Blog courtesy of the British Library, they couldn't believe who they saw there.Â
We all know this guy, right? The adorable and profoundly wise Yoda, elderly but still kick-ass Jedi master. But he's just a part of the Star Wars lore and has never appeared in real history...right?
...OR HAS HE?!?!
That is a pretty remarkable resemblance! This is from the Smithfield Decretals, a collection of Papal letters originating in France that dates back to a time period likely between 1300 and 1340.Â
Don't worry...George Lucas didn't sneak into the British Library and draw Yoda in the Decretals.
It's actually a drawing of Samson, from the Biblical story. While the resemblance IS uncanny, it seems that...just a coincidence, it is.Â
