This Lady Wouldn't Sell Her House to Developers, And It Became a Community Treasure
Edith Macefield became somewhat of a legend when she turned down a 1 million dollar offer for her home in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle in 2006. Real estate developers came to her and offered to give her 1 million dollars for her home because they were going to be putting up a shopping mall where her house was located.
Macefield left the house to a construction worker she befriended when the shopping mall was being built. She left the house to him, told him to sell it and use the money for his kids' college education. The construction worker sold it to investors who never found something to do with the house.Â

Since then, the house has been abandoned and boarded up, but there are several groups and local people trying to save the home. They add balloons to the fence and try to keep the legacy of Edith Macefield alive and well.Â
