This Artist Has A Medical Condition That Is Being Channeled Into Incredible Works Of Art
Artist Melissa S. McCracken, has a unique condition, and you've probably never heard of it before.
Her condition is synesthesia, and to this day, scholars still have difficulty landing on a unified definition - in large part because it's nearly impossible to fully understand if you don't have it. In short, it is a neurological phenomenon in which one sensory or cognitive pathway, is involuntarily linked to another. In layman terms, two different senses are synchronized with one another, and experienced together.
In Melissa's case, when she listens to music (her sense of hearing), she instinctively sees things as well (her sense of sight) - colors, hues, shapes, constantly changing. But it's not her "visualizing" them, as you or I would. She doesn't imagine what she sees - she actually sees it. So now, years after discovering her unique ability, Melissa paints what she hears and sees in the music she loves, and her creations are absolutely incredible.
