Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick is no ordinary woman. She's an incredible woman who has dedicated her life towards making one of Earth's creatures a little bit safer—the elephants.Â
Elephants have faced a lot of danger and viciousness as a result of the ivory trade.
It was for this reason that Dr. Sheldrick started the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, named after her husband.
It was for this reason that Dr. Sheldrick started the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, named after her husband.
She helps the elephants in all sorts of ways, helping them recover from mental instability and physical wounds as well.
The Trust is based in Kenya, where Sheldrick grew up.
It's a wonderful place for young elephants to grow up together and become stronger due to their difficult path. It especially helps elephants who have seen those close to them die—they grieve, just like us.
She was even able to come up with a perfect formula for elephant mother's milk, so they can get all the necessary nutrients they're unable to get from losing their parents. It takes a lot of research to discover something like that.
The eventual goal is to reintroduce these elephants to their natural habitat, but before that's possible they have to build up the strength necessary to survive in the wild.
It can take a long time for that to happen...
...but this woman is dedicated to helping them do just that.
