The Craftsmanship of This Ukulele Is So Marvelous You'll Want to Know Where to Get One

When people think of ukeleles, they think of the music most often associated with this particular music—happy-go-lucky, carefree beach bummy tunes to be sung and danced to. Maybe that Hawaiian version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, specifically.Â
And like most instruments, most ukeleles you come across will be store bought. But when it comes to making a ukelele from scratch, the process is long, tedious and extremely delicate. It truly is an art.Â
One man's journey to homemade ukelele utopia began with just two slabs of Koa wood.
After tracing the shape on the wood, the general outline was cut out.
He used a mold to shape the sides of the guitar and start the building process!
Some bracing:
Glue camps to get the whole thing together.
Boom—the body is made!
Now, for the neck of the beast.
A mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard, to be exact.
Notches, fret marking dots and some decorative flare were added, along with wires between frets. A bridge and some tuning knobs were very necessary here.
Time to string this baby up!
The stain job is just gorgeous.
Everything was perfect...and all that was needed was a little assembly to put it all together.
And voila!
The ukelele in its finished form is absolutely stunning.
The fretboard might actually be our favorite part.
I would love to play or be serenaded on that!
