The Hollywood Walk of Fame is more than just a tourist attraction. There's a rich history behind what has become a famed landmark.
1. The idea for the Walk of Fame was created by a volunteer at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce named E.M. Stuart in 1953.
2. Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin all have more than one star.
3. The original concept for the Walk of Fame included caricatures of the honorees, but was too complicated to include.
People can receive stars after their deaths, but they must have passed away at least five years before they can be honored.
4. Fictional characters can receive stars too.
Godzilla, Mickey Mouse, Tinkerbell and The Muppets have stars on the Walk of Fame.
5. There are two Harrison Ford's and two Micheal Jackson's with stars.
6. In 1994, 450 stars were removed because of subway construction.
7. At first only four types of artists were considered for nomination.
The four original categories were Motion Pictures, Television, Recording or Music and Radio. Live performance/theater was added in 1984.

A group of property managers filed a lawsuit because of the increased $1.25 million tax assessment in the area. The other was from Charlie Chaplin Jr., who wanted $400,000 because his father had not yet received a star.

11. Honorees are also required to find a sponsor who will pay the $30,000 fee that comes with the star.
