The web-slinging superhero will be teaming up with Marvel’s already impressive cast of characters.
He’ll join characters already in the universe such as Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow and The Guardians of the Galaxy.
While the full details haven’t been announced, we know that Spider-Man will first appear in another movie already planned by Marvel Studios.
Many fans believe Spidey will show up in Captain America: Civil War, since the character plays such a big role in the comic book storyline.
After that, Sony will release a new Spider-Man film on July 28, 2017. That movie will be produced by Kevin Feige, who has been heavily involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Amy Pascal, the former head of Sony Studios.
Additionally, Spider-Man is now able to fight alongside his fellow Avengers, which his character has been known to do often in the comic books.
The press release says the pair will “collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger†which many are reading to mean an end to Andrew Garfield’s tenure as Peter Parker, but that has not been confirmed.
In addition to adding a new film to Marvel Studio’s already impressive slate between now and 2020, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Inhumans will all be pushed back to make room.
The two Avengers: Infinity War movies are still slated to be released as originally planned.
