A few years ago redditor CrackerCortex decided to start a DIY project in his backyard after his dog died. His plan was to build a koi pond, but after talking to a friend, he decided to make it something MUCH bigger.
He spent about $10,000 on the project, and fellow redditors said if something like this was professionally done, it could cost at least $30,000.
The project started out simply enough, as a concrete koi pond.
Once he decided to make it a pool, he decided to go all out on it. The original plans include a waterfall, a kiddie pool, main pool and a grotto.
He did the digging himself, creating a much bigger hole than planned, and reinforcing it with a retaining wall.
Then the plumbing started to go in for the pool.
The frame of the pool was then covered in shotcrete.
After the shotcrete dried, it was time to create the rocks with latex and colored concrete.
Here you can see the grotto section of the pool.
And his son in the kiddie pool.
And just to make it even more amazing, he added a raised fire pit next to the pool.
