The phone has come along way technologically, but there are some old school practices that are actually pretty awesome, and shouldn't be lost with the modernization of the telephone!
1. Skipping the damn hello.
This is a modern practice and it's a waste of time and breath.
2. Or if you absolutely MUST something, try "Ahoy!" instead. This was Alexander Graham Bell's idea, and it's way more awesome.
3. Never EVER call someone and then suddenly become unavailable to talk as they answer the phone.
4. Save party invites for real mail, and telephones for lengthy conversations.
5. Always keep your mouth at least an inch away from the receiver. This applies to smart phones as well!
6. Outside of emergencies, do not make phone calls after 9 p.m.
7. Continuing that thought, outside of emergencies don't make any calls BEFORE 9 a.m., either.
8. If you have facial hair, be aware of the static you can create by that mustache getting out of control by the mouthpiece.
9. Ask "Who's calling?" as opposed to "Who are you?" When an unknown number calls.
10. Immediately say your own phone number when answering the phone for an unknown number. It'll allow people to known immediately if they've dialed incorrectly.
11. Always solve a conflict right away via telephone as opposed to waiting until you see them in person, to avoid stewing and getting angrier.
