The amount of time you spend on your phone can have seriously negative effects on your health.
According to a study published in the medical journal, Surgical Technology International, spending a significant amount of time looking down at your phone can put up to 60 pounds of pressure on your spine.
New York surgeon, Kenneth Hansraj calculated the amount of pressure that texting and emails are adding to your spine.
"The weight seen by the spine increases when flexing the head forward at varying degrees. As the head tilts forward the forces seen by the neck surges to 27 lbs at 15 degrees, 40 lbs at 30 degrees, 49 lbs at 45 degrees and 60 lbs at 60 degrees."
Your head weighs about 10 pounds, so all that texting is adding an extra 50 pounds of weight to your neck and spine.
That's like having a medium-sized dog hanging from your neck.
Will you make a more conscious effort to straighten up?
