These are the mummies of Venzone, Italy.
It was tradition for villagers in the area to bury their dead in tomb's under their cathedral.
Some bodies were rearranged around 1647. Villagers were stunned when they found about 40 mummies in the tomb.
Villagers were surprised by how perfectly preserved these mummies were.
For years, people didn't understand why the mummies looked this way.
The mummies became a regional attraction in Venzone.
Some say that people who go to the tomb so they could remove and visit their relatives and friends.
Modern science is credited with discovering how they ended up being preserved so perfectly.
There is a parasitic fungus that lives in the tomb called Hypha tombicina.
This fungus dries out a body before it has started to decompose.
Some of the mummies are still on display in Venzone.
