This week marks the 25th anniversary of the release of The Little Mermaid. Celebrate the iconic Disney film with these awesome facts!
1. The Studio Chairman for Disney at the time, Jeffrey Katzenberg wanted the "Part of Your World" scene to be removed from the movie.
2. The color of Ariel's tail was custom created by Disney's paint lab.
The color is called "Ariel."
3. If you look closely, you'll see a few Disney characters in the scene where King Triton arrives.
Goofy, Donald Duck, Mickey and Kermit can be seen in the crowd.
4. Howard Ashman, the lyricist for the film influenced the way that Jodi Benson and Pat Carroll (voiced actresses for Ariel and Ursula) delivered their songs.
5. Initial drawings of Ursula portrayed her as a scorpion fish or spine fish.
6. Disney animators studied the Monstro scenes from Pinocchio when creating the shipwreck scene and the scenes where Ursula rises out of the ocean.
7. Ursula was only a minor character in the original Hans Christian Andersen fairytale.

The ultimately decided to go with red hair because of how well it complimented the color of her tail.They also liked that it set her apart from the Daryl Hannah's character in Splash, who was a blonde mermaid.
12. Many of Ariel's sisters are named after real people.
Atina was named after Atina: Evil Queen of The Galaxy, Alana was named after Alan Menken who wrote the movie's score, and Andrina was the name of the director's aerobic instructor.
13. Many of the sailor's seen on Eric's ship were inspired by staff members.
14. When Flounder and Ariel are talking about Scuttle, he starts to look like him for a few moments.
15. The Little Mermaid was the first Disney film Alan Menken wrote a score for. He was nervous and was convinced he'd be terrible at it.
