There was no more significant day in World War II than June 6, 1944.
This was D-Day. This was the day the allied troops really started to take control against the fascism-supporting Axis powers. They stormed the beaches at Normandy, and turned the tables of history.
The photos we have below, taken by Reuters photographer Chris Helgren, show images from this historic day, paired with images of how people are spending their days at these beaches now—lounging without a care in the world, often times on vacation. The photos show a STARK comparison between state of things during the way and the state of life today.
