Sometimes, when you're in elementary school, you're taught things that might be watered down versions of the truth.
But that is WAY different than teaching things that are blatantly wrong, and that is the case for these completely false nuggets of information that seem to be all-too prevalent in schools today. Learn these facts and help us set the record straight!
1. Red, yellow and blue are NOT the primary colors.
Primary colors are colors that can not be created by adding two other shades together. Red can be made from blending yellow and magenta. Blue from blending cyan and magenta.
The actual primary colors are Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Your printer cartridges speak the truth, although your elementary school teachers don't!
2. Schools, when teaching about magnetic fields, tend to err on the side of "metallic things, and only metallic things, are magnetic!" I.E., paperclips.
But this is not so! While the magnetic forces may be extremely weak, many other things, such as human beings and tomatoes, can interact with magnetic fields as well.
3. We have more than five senses
The five senses that we're taught in school—sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell—are only the beginning.
Think about it...you have a sense of time. You have a sense of pain and hurt, and even a sense of temperature.
And in some cases, you might be able to see dead people...
4. Taste maps and why they're the worst
Taste maps in science books tend to show this elaborate pattern on the tongue where bitter tastebuds are in the back, and sweet ones are in the front.
The truth is, real taste maps look like this:
Your entire tongue has tastebuds that work exactly the same. They all taste sweet things, all taste bitter things.
5. There are more than three states of matter!
Those three little guys aren't the only little guys that matter!
Scientists have proven that plasma, liquidized crystal states, and possibly others are just as legitimate states of matter as the three we're normally taught in school.
The lesson here is this: schools need to start updating their curriculums! The real knowledge is OUT THERE. Now you can start help spreading it!
