When Chicago wasn't fixing its pothole problem fast enough, artist Jim Bachor decided to take matters into his own hands.
After the city experienced one of its worst winters on record last year, the streets were marred with potholes. Bachor saw the opportunity to create something beautiful out of the eyesores, so he filled them with original mosaics.
Bacor originally created seven mosaics last spring which incorporated the Chicago flag. This fall, he created four more mosaics with a floral twist.
In addition to beautifying the block, the mosaics are meant to promote a sense of pride.
The mosaics are no easy feat to create either. On average, each one costs about $50.
And they aren't permanent. By next season, these creations could very well disappear.
But for now, Chicago has Bachor to thank for making the city a bit more beautiful.
