The Pallet House project is a relief effort that was started by I-Beam Design. The New York-based architecture and design firm was struck by the fact that 84% of the world's refugees could have shelter at an extremely low cost.
I-Beam is selling construction diagrams, a materials and tools list, plan, elevation and renderings for just $75.
The shelters I-Beam created were constructed from shipping pallets.
The homes, which can be upgraded to include running water, heat or air conditioning, can be constructed for under $100 by just about anyone.
The design of each dwelling is flexible, so no two have to look the same.
I-Beam developed "Ikea-like" assembly instructions so that anyone can figure out how to build their own simple dwelling.
