An Artist Uses A Single Thread And Thousands Of Nails To Show How We're All Connected

Using only three materials, Japanese artist Kumi Yamashita is able to create stunning photo-realistic portraits.

Yamashita, who now lives and works in New York City, uses wood panels, brads and a single thread to create these images. The single unbroken thread is woven around the brads in an intricate pattern that later reveals the faces of those depicted in each work.

Pieces from this series, called "Constellation," were selected for exhibition at the Smithsonian Institute's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
