Photographs are visual reminders of events that happened in the past. But they're almost useless for people who can't see.
One company is trying to change that. Pirate3D, based in Singapore, is helping the blind see photographs through their experiment, "Touchable Memories." Through this endeavour, photographs are 3D printed to make sculptures and relics that mirror the image. Just as Braille was created to help the blind read and interpret text, this experiment was created to help them see and interpret photographs.
Normally, photographs help us remember events and stimulate memories.
But through "Touchable Memories," the blind will finally get to experience photographs in their own way.
Here is one blind musician's album.
Through 3D printing, he is able to know what the cover art looks like.
One blind director of photography finally got the chance to know how a scene from his film turned out.
And one man got to relive a ski trip he went on with his family.
Now, photographs have new meaning thanks to "Touchable Memories."
