Planet Earth is a crazy, mysterious, beautiful place. But even though we all live here full-time, you'll be shocked at all the things you DIDN'T know about your home planet.
1. On just a plain old average day, Switzerland rises and falls up to 25 centimeters.
2. Endoliths are tiny little creatures that actually live INSIDE of rocks.
Doesn't look too comfortable in there...
3. If two cyclones get extremely close to one another, they'll actually start orbiting the other.
It's known as "dancing," which is kind of amazing.
4. Earth is actually smoother than a billiard ball in a game of pool.
5. Mount Everest actually moves horizontally, not vertically.
6. Earthquakes may seem sudden, especially hugely damaging ones, but the entire process of a catastrophic Earthquake is actually extremely slow.
7. Mauna Loa, a volcano in Hawaii, is actually taller than Mount Everest, if you measure both from their true bases.
Mauna Loa's base is under water, which is why it doesn't get nearly as much attention for its size.
8. Clouds weigh, on average, about 500 tons.
9. Twisters don't always happen like they did in the Wizard of Oz...Earth has magnetic tornadoes, too!
10. Contrary to the famous idiom, lightning can strike the same place many, many times.
