The Markthal Rotterdam is a giant food market and housing development in the Netherlands.

The magnificent building was designed by Dutch architects and took over 5 years to complete.

The massive building is almost 312,000 square feet and hosts about 100 food shops, 20 retail units and 228 apartments within the complex.

The food and shopping area is located on the two lower floors of the building, while the housing units are on the 9 upper levels.

This new attraction just opened in October 2014 and is expected to bring in about 4.5 to 7 million visitors per year!

Perhaps the most spectacular part of this market is the 36,000 square foot mural that wraps around the interior ceiling.

The colorful mural was created by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam who titled their masterpiece, Cornucopia.

The mural was broken up into squares and printed on perforated aluminum panels during construction.

Those panels were then attached to acoustic panels to control noise level within the building.

The art on the mural reflects a fresh market vibe including images of produce and flowers.
