Landfills are a serious problem for the environment.
Greenhouse gases and toxins from landfills can infiltrate the environment. Not to mention they're smelly, noisy, and incredibly damaging to wildlife.
In Sweden, they've conquered the problem of landfills.
In fact, less than 1% of their garbage ends up in these detrimental places.
Instead, their trash is either recycled or goes to waste-to-energy (WTE) plants.
At these plants, trash is incinerated. Steam is produced as it's burned to generate giant turbines that create energy.
There are 32 WTE plants across Sweden that provide electricity to over one million homes!
