An older design for British McFlurry cups was killing hedgehogs. In case you don't think that's a big deal, let me just remind you just how cute hedgehogs are.
Hedgehogs were sticking their heads into old McFlurry cups and were starving to death as a result. Would you really want this little guy to starve to death?
Neither did McDonald's
That's why they redesigned the whole cup so this would never happen again:
What McDonald's did after "extensive" research is make the hole smaller so that hedgehogs' heads wouldn't fit anymore. I think we can all thank McDonald's for making this still possible:
