Animals And Humans Don't See Exactly The Same Way. Here Are The Key Differences

by N/A, 10 years ago | 2 min read

There's many inhabitants of this world, and it's clear to see that not everyone or everything sees things as clear as others. Your perspective on a situation can be (and usually is) completely different than someone else who may be sitting right next to you. Expand that situation beyond the human eye and take on the POV of an animal. They obviously are going to see it different than you, and not just because of their angle, but because of the way their eyes depict colors among other factors.

First, let's look at the difference of vision when it comes to two animals humans have the most interaction with: pets–specifically the dog and the cat. Here's a side by side of a human vs. a dog's sight.

Dogs can see browns, yellow and blue through a wide peripheral vision. As you can see, the dog's vision is more dull vs. a vibrant color palette in the human eye.

Cats are the same in that they see browns, yellow and blue, but they come equipped with an inner eyelid for protection.

So next time your cat strolls across your piano, or are currently purring all over your computer while you attempt to read this, know that this is the way they are seeing things.

We'e given you an insight into dogs and cats because of their close relationship with humans, but BuzzFeed Yellow also breaks down the vision of:

• Birds
• Flies
• Snakes
• Sharks
• Fish and
• Rats

So, watch this two minute video here to see what the animals around you are seeing compared to yourself. It also has fun by taking on the actual POV of each animal, such as the cat on the piano or a snake slithering through the grass.

It's always good to see everything from as many perspectives as possible to truly understand the world around you. Now you can do so with animals in mind as well–well, at least in terms of the colors they're seeing.
