There are a few questions each and every one of us have, but have never really wanted to ask. Hopefully this list will answer some of those questions for you!
1. Why are our veins blue if our blood is red?
First of all, our blood is always red, no matter what you may have heard. The reason your veins look blue is because different wavelengths of light with different properties hitting your skin. Blue light is absorbed by the blood and is then reflected back.
2. Why do most singers seem to lose their accents when singing?
Phonetics and cadence often makes singers lose their accents when they sing. This is because they are forced to stress some syllables and make their words longer. The result makes most people sound like they’re from the same area.
3. Why do we crave greasy food when we're hungover?
When you drink, your body produces more of a brain chemical called galanin. Galanin in turn increases your appetite for fats, so that’s why you’ll go for the extra big plate of greasy bacon and hash browns.
4. Why do we say "cheese" when taking a picture?
The exact origin of the word “cheese†is unknown, but what we do know is that by saying it, the corners of our mouth turn up, producing the smile most people want for photographs.
5. Why does turkey make us so sleepy?
It’s actually not the tryptophan in turkey that makes you tired, but it’s just the sheer amount of food you eat at the times when you normally eat turkey (Thanksgiving for example). Otherwise, you’d be falling asleep every time you had a turkey sandwich for lunch.

You often come up with great thoughts when you’re not really focused on anything in particular, and the shower is a great example of that. Most people don’t have to think really hard about their shower routine, so their brain is free to wander.
7. What purpose do eyebrows serve?
Eyebrows serve a few purposes, first of all they are incredibly helpful in showing your emotion to others. More practically however, they act almost like a sweatband, so that if you’re sweating a lot, that sweat doesn’t drip down into your eyes, where it can end up really stinging.
8. What is the difference between "and" and "&" in movie credits?
When you see an ampersand (&) in movie credits, it means two writers worked together to write the script. If it’s the word “and†it means the two writers worked on the script at different times.
9. Why do our fingers and toes get all wrinkly when we're in the water?
Scientists believe that our fingers and toes become wrinkly is a way to help improve our grip on things underwater. It gives our fingers “treads†like on a tire, creating a much better grip when things get slippery.
10. Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable?
Technically the tomato is a fruit because it contains the seeds of its plant. However, the US Supreme Court classified it as a vegetable. That’s because when the Tariff Act was passed in March of 1883, it required a tax to be paid on imported vegetables, but not fruit, and no one wanted to pass up on taxing tomato farmers.
11. Why are some countries called completely different things in other languages?
Languages came before the idea of countries, so the names of countries often derive from what groups of people called small regions they had settled on.
12. Why do you have to be 21 to buy alcohol in the U.S.?
Technically states can decide their own drinking age, but with the passage of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, states were also told they had to enact a minimum drinking age of 21 or lose 10% of their highway funding.
13. Why are Q and U always together?
“QU†is a digraph, or a pair of letters that represents a single sound. Most words in the english language where we use them as one letter are borrowed from Latin, but there are some words that contain a Q without it’s buddy U, such as burqa.
