Ditch The Powder And Try Making This From-Scratch Hot Chocolate
Reddit user mistermacheath recently posted a step-by-step walkthrough on how to make "real hot chocolate." This hot chocolate is about as real as it gets, and you'll probably want to slurp up your computer screen as you read this.
Reddit user mistermacheath's hot chocolate recipe is simple, but my goodness does it look amazing.
All it takes is these six ingredients: a large bar of good dark chocolate, single cream (which is basically the British equivalent of American coffee cream, or any cream with 18% butterfat content), whole milk, a small bar of milk chocolate, cinnamon and sea salt
To begin, finely chop the chocolate.
This is the most labor-intensive part of the recipe, but trust me, it's worth it. If you were so inclined, you could also shave the chocolate–really, you just want it in small bits so it can melt effectively.
Next, heat 3/4 cup of milk slowly, adding in the chocolate until it's all melted.
When all the chocolate is melted into the milk, it should be a dark, rich brown like this.
Not a necessity, but a little sea salt and some cinnamon add to the (already delicious) flavor.
Add each to taste, though only a pinch is recommended.
Add a cup and a quarter of milk and a third of a cup of cream.
Leave on medium heat until the entire mixture is heated through. Do not bring to a boil.
Use a milk frother (if you have one)...
...and you should get some delicious, frothy milk chocolate that's practically guaranteed to be the best you've ever had.
